ILA 2016

Some ILA 2016 impressions shared by our trainee

My name is Thomas Peters and as a trainee, I had the possibility to visit the ILA (Berlin Air Show) on Thursday the 2. of June, together with Mr. Zysk and a group of employees from the QPAC GmbH. Of course we had the time to visit the static-display-area and to join the flying-display program partially, for example the impressed demonstration of the A-400M. Moreover the exhibition was used to maintain and expand the network to cooperation partners. I had the chance to take actively part in an early planning process of a business meeting, at which the expansion of a project with the theme „simulation of virtual reality“ will be the aim. For this goal many promising dialogues were conducted with representatives of the DLR, the Technical University Wildau, "Business Development Dahme-Spreewald“ and some Airbus representatives from the E-Aircraft Cockpit Concept team.

A bright interest were shown for the project by the interlocutors and all agreed to meet within the next weeks at one table for more detailed conversations. Kindly we were received at the booth from the „Dahme-Spreewald Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft“ were we could talk to the named representatives in a friendly atmosphere. We were also invited there to eat some snacks and so I had the possibility to tell Mr. Zysk some of my own ideas. For example, to expand the marketing strategy for the project with further quality examination by accepted aviation experts. Moreover the thought, to form a further goal for the project by which it would be possible, to convince potential customers, replacing their different simulation techniques by only one cross-section-device and save money in result. All in all I can draw a very positiv conclusion from our ILA-visit. Although the event has become smaller in comparison to former years, it is still worth to go there. Especially if you are not just interested in flying-display rather than in building up networks.

Airbus A350 XWB Advanced

The A350XWB is a new generation of long-range twin-engine airliner. The A350 incorporates all the latest technology available with composite materials, high tech systems and a revolutionary design.

This model by Flight Factor is just as revolutionary for the flight sim market and X-Plane 10  with an unprecedented level of details and simulated systems. Thanks to its intuitive interface it can also be used by advanced and new users alike.

Advanced  Fly-by-Wire and Flight systems
  • Full FBW with Highly realistic implementation of the Airbus “normal law” by QPAC – the most realistic fly-by-wire implementation for desktop flight simulation.
  • Basic SID/STAR implementation using X-plane fms-files that you can create yourself and share with the community.
  • "What you see is what you fly" flight path indication on the ND (i.e. curved trajectories with the turn radius properly computed based on speed and angular turn distance.)
  • Implementation of all Airbus AP modes, except some non-precision approach modes (Selected and managed modes, speed constraints respected, "at or below" contraints in phase climb, "at or above" constraints in phase descent.)
  • Full PFD and ND displays with fully independent display and different data sources for the captain and copilot displays.
  • Independent autopilots

Airbus A320 Flight Training Device at University Dresden

The chair of Air Transport Technology and Logistics (IFL) at TU Dresden operates a A320 simulator which is a complete replica of an A320 flight deck. The hardware set up is a combination of ecaFAROS and Flightdeck Solutions (FDS) components and includes all control, input and output devices. The FAA-certified software from Laminar Research (X-Plane Verison 9) is used for the simulation environment and extended by a highly detailed model of the Airbus A320, including avionics systems, flight management and guidance system (FMGCS) as well as hydraulic and electric bus systems. The model has been made available to the IFL by QPAC as part of a cooperation agreement including the model source code, providing the chair with the opportunity to make any desired adjustments to a specific aircraft systems in the context of research and development. Thus, the system is in a constant evolution. The simulator is designed as a fixed-based flight training device (FTD) and serves as a highly potential resource for the research in the field of Trajectory Management, Airport Management and Safety Assessment carried out by the chair and furthermore suitable for courses, trainings and demonstrations.

Presentation of ongoing research activities at MBG

Together with about 150 guests, the Mittelständische Beteiligungsgesellschaft Berlin-Brandenburg GmbH (MBG) celebrated their summer festival in Potsdam with canoeing, airbrush tattoos, bull riding and barbecue food. QPAC took the opportunity to present our latest research work in the field of alternative fuels which we are performing in close cooperation with BTU Cottbus. The Fuel Cell based Emergency Power System connected to our A320 X-Plane simulation drew the attention of audience of all ages.
